Ambulance crash unveils new safety system found at WISH-TV | Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic
WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — A safety equipment supplier unveiled a new system Thursday by conducting a live ambulance crash to better protect first responders.
The equipment was an inflatable airbag aimed a side-facing occupants, like emergency medical services responders. The device fits around the neck, separating the head, neck and shoulder.
The Indiana Mills & Manufacturing company says it will allow EMS responders a wider range of motion.
“Ambulances can be involved in high speed accidents. they’re moving at high speeds and it’s so important that we are bringing that next level of safety to the EMT that’s protecting those in other accidents,” said Nicholas Awabdy, vice president of engineering at IMMI.
IMMI could launch the equipment in new ambulances in a few months.
