INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Organizers of the state’s largest robotics championship seek help from the public.

TechPoint Foundation for Youth’s Indiana Robotics State Championship will host over 300 robotics teams on Saturday, March 25, at Lucas Oil Stadium.

“There will be thousands of kids and that means we need volunteers,” Andy Fulton, event coordinator, said.

Students from third to twelfth grades will compete in teams of four to eight.

“What we really need is judges. You get to talk one-on-one with the students. You get to experience firsthand what excites these kids about robotics,” Fulton explained. “The fun part about it is, at the end of the judging experience, you get to hand out the awards to the students.”

Judges will decide the winners based on game strategy, communication, and more.

“The winners of the state championship will move on to Dallas, Texas, for the World Championship,” Jamie Inskeep, director of programs, said. “Robotics is competitive, but at the same time, the kids are having a ton of fun and they’re working collaboratively and they’re increasing their communication skills and their critical thinking. Those are the skills that can apply to any job, regardless of what they pursue in their futures.”
